The CIM Level 3 Award in Marketing Principles has been developed following extensive global employer led research including small businesses, international organisations and numerous marketers across a range of marketing and business functions.

This module is based on CIM’s unique Professional Marketing Competencies which are designed to help marketers meet the increasing demands of them at every stage in their career.

This CIM Level 3 Award in Marketing Principles is aimed at those either in a job that already involves marketing or those who wish to find out about marketing with the intention of starting out in a marketing career.

The aim of this qualification is to provide an understanding of the key concepts and terminology used in marketing.

Successful completion of this course will equip you with the knowledge skills and understanding to be able to perform in a support level role and carry out an essential and successful professional marketing role within the workplace.

The course will comprise of studying the Marketing Principles module and sitting an external examination comprising of multiple choice questions

Unsupported online learners will have access to our Virtual Learning Environment which provides all course materials and content.

Learners can log in at any time as long as they have internet access. Learners will be required to dedicate between 6 – 10 hours flexibly per week. 


Learners will be assessed by CIM via an examination

Examinations will be sat either at Newcastle College or an external Pitman Training test centre local to you.

After successfully completing the CIM L3 Award in Marketing Principles you can progress onto the following courses:

• CIM L3 Award in Customer Communications
• CIM L3 Award in Digital Essentials
• CIM L4 Award in Marketing


Those who successfully achieve this qualification will be able to understand the wider role of marketing and how their practical skills can be applied to their career progression within the marketing profession.

Whilst there are no formal entry requirements for this course, learners must be aged 18 or over. All learners will be assessed by an admission decision. Learners wishing to study this qualification are recommended to hold GCSE’s in Mathematics and English. If a learner does not hold these qualifications an admission decision can be made based on practical work experience.

If English is not your first language an English language test score of 5.5 and no component under 5 is required.
